MUGEN 1.0 vs 1.1 vs IKEMEN GO
Three engines share a chars folder and a select.def. They are not the same program. Pick one to play on, keep a second folder only for zips that refuse the first.
Which one to download
If you are starting now: IKEMEN GO (v1.0.0 as of 12 Sep 2026). 64-bit, netplay, 4 players, and it runs most 1.0 / 1.1 characters.
If a listing says M.U.G.E.N 1.0+ and it already works for you, stay there. If a listing says 1.1 only (Wolf_Stak Goku, some zoom stages), use MUGEN 1.1 plus the 4GB patch.
WinMugen (2002) is the old Windows port. Leave it unless a 2004 char literally will not open anywhere else.

What 1.0 is for
Widescreen, localcoord, the first "modern" Elecbyte. A huge amount of Pots / Jmorphman / Infinite work was built against 1.0. If a CvS conversion dies in 1.1, 1.0 is the folder to keep.
What 1.1 is for
Last official Elecbyte. OpenGL, stage zoom, a few rendering fixes. It is still tagged beta. HD authors target it, then hit the memory wall. Patch the exe. Do not assume 1.1 is "the current MUGEN" for everything; it is current Elecbyte, not the most compatible.
What IKEMEN GO is for
A replacement engine that reads MUGEN content. Same chars, stages, select.def. Extra: rollback netplay, four players, storyboards, a new default screenpack, Linux / macOS / Android builds. Full games on this site that need it say IKEMEN GO on the listing: Cosmo 3.0, Stardust, Street Fighter All-Stars, Windplay.
It is not a MUGEN clone of every CNS trick. A char that relies on a 1.1 bug may behave differently. Try it; if the author marked the zip 1.1-only, believe them.
Full games are their own folder
Jump Force, New Era, Academy, Cosmo: you run that pack's exe. Do not empty those chars into a blank 1.1. Ranked lists: Best IKEMEN GO Full Games, Jump Force / JUS, Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom.

Is IKEMEN GO legal to use with MUGEN chars?
The engine is open source. The characters are still the authors' files. Download from the author, same as on MUGEN.
Can I copy one chars folder between engines?
Yes. Point each engine at it, or copy the folder. Each engine still needs its own data/select.def unless you maintain one file and copy it over.
Why do listings say 1.0+ ?
It means 1.0 or newer Elecbyte, not "IKEMEN required". If the author tested IKEMEN GO, the listing says that.
